The Needle & Pin Christmas 2016 opening hours

This is part gift guide post and part public service announcement. My favourite local pub have confirmed their Christmas opening hours.

From Friday 16th December they will be open from 12pm until 11pm every day (except for New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and a few hours on Christmas Day).  That means you will be able to drink excellent beer, order a Peter pizza to be delivered to your table, or bring some other food in to enjoy with a drink. You can also do some Christmas shopping for beer, and pick up lots of very interesting things from the shelves and the fridges. On Saturday 17th December they will also have a table of Christmas gift ideas upstairs from 12-4pm, including gift vouchers with a 10% bonus on every purchase.

npxmasHere’s just a taster of some of the great beers that I picked up on my last shopping trip, you’ll find something to suit all tastes (although some of these will have sold out by now)…

Christmas 2016 gifting ideas – Hook Norton Brewery

Another post in the “what to buy people for Christmas” series. This one will be useful if you are looking for beery gifts for the more traditional ale drinker, perhaps someone who is not a fan of all this “hoppy craft beer nonsense that tastes like washing up liquid”.

If you know someone like that, then the classic styles of Hook Norton Brewery will be right up your street. We’ve been there at least three times, usually whenever we are camping just down the road in Chipping Norton.

As well as the obvious range of beers, they also sell lots of nice food products, including mustards and chutneys made using Hook Norton beers as well as local honeys and jams. There’s also a range of clothing, bags, tankards, glasses and other souvenirs. All of these are available online as well as in the shop. The only thing missing from the online shop (for obvious reasons) is the fresh produce such as cheeses, meats and pies.

Here’s an example of their range of beers:-

I’ve enjoyed many of their beers, such as Greedy Goose, Nice Try, the maltiness of Old Hooky and the hoppiness of the Red Rye.

A good Xmas beer would be Twelve Days, which is very dark and malty, whilst Hooky Gold has classic bitterness. Ten to Ten is a session pale ale and the Double Stout is rich and roasted with smokiness in the malt. The Haymaker is a good golden ale with Goldings hops, and First Light is similarly good. Hooky Mild is a good old fashioned mild.

Their last order date is Wednesday 21st December 2016.
