Our 10th wedding anniversary today, and a lovely sunny Edinburgh day to celebrate that. We spent a lot of it wandering around the castle, there’s a lot to see and it’s worth taking your time to explore it. From prisons, to swords, to jewels to a massive gun that goes bang at 1pm on the dot.
Several options for the captive audience to have lunch, we chose the cafe very close to the cannon. Lots of options in here too, various hot food choices as well as pre-made sandwiches, with crisps, cakes and hot and cold drinks, as well as over priced local ales, including Edinburgh Castle 80/- (aka 80 shilling), a russet brown beer with heavy malt flavours.
I had a nice chicken & avocado sandwich on rye bread, not your standard limp pre-packed fare at all. Nice to see decent sandwiches for your money (attraction catering is never cheap as they are trying to raise money to fund whatever that attraction is).
Edinburgh castle is a cracking day out, which is made even better by the fact that the cafe is a very pleasant experience.
