Black Horse Hotel, Grassington

Another moist May day. It had been raining all morning, so we had a lie in and a lazy morning (perfect for catching up with some blog activity). Today was an afternoon walk, to Linton Falls, along the river, up through the woods and then back down in to Grassington. But first, a spot of lunch.

Grassington is blessed with several pub options, we chose the Black Horse as it looked the best one from our research. You can eat in the bar area (next to the lovely log burner) or in a separate restaurant area, it’s totally up to you. We chose the bar, grabbed a couple of menus and ordered some sandwiches for lunch (not all of the pubs in the village do sandwiches at lunch).

A pint of Hetton pale ale to accompany lunch, good bitterness for a lunchtime pint.

For lunch itself, a chicken pesto sandwich for Mrs MOFAD and a fish butty with a bucket of chips for me. The “bucket of chips” rang alarm bells, and as soon as lunch appeared, the alarm bells were correct – sandwiches served on boards. We want plates! The sandwiches were very good, a nice home made foccacia, and a nice little side salad and coleslaw. The chips were also good, but as ever when served in a bucket it is hard to apply salt and vinegar to them properly.

A lovely lunch in a lovely pub. We could have stayed here all afternoon, but there was walking to be done, so reluctantly we said goodbye and headed out into the afternoon sunshine. MOFAD approved of course and a MOFAD card was left.
