The Marquis Wellington, February 2016

You know what it means if we are here. Another comedy night out, although a slightly different venue for the show. Due to various factors, we haven’t lined up many shows for this year’s Leicester comedy festival. Tonight we find ourselves back in the Marquis for some pre-show dining.

First up a pint of Last Orders from Brunswick brewery. A good session bitter.

For Mrs MOFAD, a half of Scrummage, from the Bottle Kicking cider company. A nice balance of sweet and sour in this one, deceptively drinkable at 6.5%

So then, on to food. And in a change from the norm, no pulled ham pie for us tonight. Instead, we both went for burgers. For me, The Marquis Burger, featuring a burger, chicken strips (don’t remember seeing these), pulled pork, bacon, cheese and onion rings. Oh, predictable pulled pork, you are my friend.

Mrs M opted for the Beer Battered Halloumi burger, with garlic mayo and sun-dried tomatoes. It had plenty of garlic. Lots and lots.

Another nice bit of pre-show dining. As for the show itself, Mitch Benn at the O2 Academy, it was hit and miss. He is still touring last year’s show, which we saw at last year’s festival, so tonight’s show was a greatest hits compilation, with quite a bit from recent shows, as well as a few rarities. The poor quality of the venue (no decent seating) didn’t help.
