The Mortal Man is one of our favourite Lake District haunts. Pretty much every year we do a walk from Ambleside, over Wansfell to Troutbeck and then back. Sometimes it’s cold, sometimes it’s wet, sometimes there’s a gale blowing, sometimes there’s snow on the ground. Whatever the weather, there’s always a warm welcome for walkers at the Mortal Man. It’s why we keep coming back!
This year, it was a snowy trip across the top, but a lovely crisp sunny day to do it on:-
It’s always bustling in the Mortal Man, so we were very happy to find ourselves a table and order some food. Luckily for Mrs MOFAD there was a cider festival on, so there were plenty of ciders to choose from. There’s always a good selection of ales. Whilst waiting for food, I had a Bah Humbug by Dent Brewery:-
A bit sweeter than I was expecting, but very pleasant. Mrs MOFAD opted for a Bumble Berry by Sandford Orchards – one of those very easy drinking ciders that could get very messy very quickly as it goes down easily.
Our food arrived, and with triple pork nirvana always a possibility, I opted for a favourite, an interpretation of a chicken and bacon club sandwich:-
To accompany this, a pint of Loughrigg from Hesket Newmarket brewery, a very nice ale.
Mrs MOFAD could not resist a second tipple, this time a Mango Madness by Hand Drawn Monkey – another that could get messy quickly. It’s fair to say that The Mortal Man is 100% MOFAD approved! A perfect stop on a winter walk!
