Beer of the month, November 2014

Quite a few to choose from this month, as a visit to the Good Food Show usually means a chance to sample a few ales from some smaller brewers as well as some more well known names. A few interesting beers from Keltek brewery were at the GFS as well as some disappointing ones from Cornish Crown.

Also this month a few nice gifts of ale, including a can of American Brown Ale from Fourpure brewing, and a very nice Pure Gold from the Itchen Valley brewery.

However, this month’s winner comes courtesy of a delivery from Harvey’s brewery in Lewes. Preferred logistics co-ordinator Bruce was ordering a “few” beers from Harvey’s, so I requested a “few” for myself including the Golden Ale, IPA (very disappointing), Star of Eastbourne (almost the winner this month), Armada Ale (very flavoursome pale ale), Albion Ale, Blue Label and Sussex Wild Hop.

On to the winner, Bonfire Boy, dangerously quaffable at 5.8%, a subtle smoky note from black malt, and a touch of sweetness. This would make a good Xmas ale, but mine has gone.
